Choose the suitable coated webbing

Coated webbing isn’t the new webbing material in the market. We can find it on the backpacks, skis, gaiters, fishing bags and many outdoor products. Besides outdoor products, coated webbing is widely used for dog collar, leash and harness set. And some unique high quality fashion bags choose matte coated webbing as the decoration or straps. However, coated webbing owns different materials of layers and different quality. How to choose suitable coated webbing for our final products?

As we have introduced several times, there are three main materials for coated webbing: PVC, TPU and silicone. PVC coated webbing owns the largest market share now. Then TPU coated webbing and finally silicone one. Because of the different feature of these three materials, the coated webbing made of different material will must own different physical property. Then let’s give some examples to explain.

1. PVC coated webbing

PVC coated webbing is soft and in low price. Low price is the main reason that it occupies the large market share of coated webbing now. But the shortage of PVC coated webbing is also obvious. PVC webbing is easy to adsorb dust, which is easy to get dirt and hard to clean by wiping. Besides, PVC is not eco-friendly, which will do harm to the environment. The most obvious character is that PVC can be smelly, especially when it burned. So if you had few budget and do not had much request on quality, PVC coated webbing may be one choice.

2. TPU coated webbing

Compared with PVC one, TPU coated webbing is eco-friendly. It has no smell no matter in the regular situation or be burned, which does no harm to either environment or people’s health. This is about environmental friendly performance. On top of that, TPU coated webbing owns better strength. It can easily pull a car in weight of 2 tons. Within the good abrasion resistance performance, TPU coated webbing is widely used for outdoor products such as skis and climbing ladders. Of course, it won’t absorb dust on surface, which is more easy to clean than PVC one. The property of low temperature resistance makes TPU coated webbing can be used at circumstance of minus 50 degrees.

3. Silicone coated webbing

Silicone is a kind of eco-friendly material which is not easy to process. So silicone coated webbing owns less market share of coated webbing. Silicone webbing can be as soft as PVC one, but owns much better physical performance than PVC webbing. For example, silicone coated webbing has better hand feeling than both PVC and TPU one. At the same time, it owns nearly all advantages that TPU coated webbing has. So if you had more budget and pursued the quality and softness, just choose silicone coated webbing.
