How to distinguish TPU coated webbing or PVC one?

Coated webbing is more and more widely used in our daily life such as backpack, outdoor weaving chair and fishing bag. As we know there are several materials for coated webbing: TPU, PVC and silicone. Silicone coated webbing is not very common in market because of the high cost and high request of technology. Now TPU coated webbing and PVC coated webbing occupy almost the whole market share of coated webbing. But the price and feature of TPU one is much better than PVC one. Then some customers ask how to know if it is TPU coated webbing or PVC one? Here we talk about how to distinguish these two materials of coated webbing.

1. Identification by elasticity

The rebound speed of the PVC coated webbing is slow after being folded; And the TPU strap rebounds quickly after being folded.

2. Identification by wear resistance

Scratch the surface of the belt with your nails, the surface of the PVC belt is prone to dents, and the recovery speed is slow; But there are almost no scratches on the surface of the TPU strap.

3. Identify by observing the smoke after burning

When PVC webbing is burned, the smoke is thick, heavy and black. However, when TPU coated webbing is burned, the smoke is thin and white. If it release black smoke sometimes, it is due to insufficient combustion.

4. Identification by burning smell

When TPU burns, it has some fragrance, and you will hardly smell odour; When PVC burns, the odour will be very strong and it even make you sick.

5. Identification by residues after combustion

After burning, TPU turns into a black viscous liquid, which feels sticky and silky when touched. On contrast, after burning, PVC becomes carbonized, hard, and turns into powder after hand-twisting.
