Choose good coated webbing for bag

Coated webbing is widely used in our daily life such as outdoor chair, bag straps, gaiters and skis. And the more common application is in luggage and backpack straps. Luggage straps have certain requirements for coated webbing. For example, the high-strength tensile force is the basic requirement. Then more high quality luggage straps should be eco-friendly and odorless, wear-resistant and stain-resistant, waterproof and anti-bacterial, comfortable feel, beautiful appearance, etc. Coated webbing can satisfy all these performances. At the same time, coated webbing is not easy to deform or break when being sewed or punched rivets.

Generally, the coated webbing used for bag and backpack strap has conventional size. For example, the regular thickness is 1.0mm, 1.5mm and 2mm. While the width is 13mm, 16mm, 19mm, 25mm, 30mm, 38mm and 50mm. Besides, the bag designers or manufacturers would more like to choose matte coated webbing. Some unique designers may choose the glossy one or that with special texture on surface. Besides size and surface, bag manufacturers should pay attention to the following aspects when choosing the coated webbing for luggage straps:

1. Check whether the inner webbing and the outer TPU layer are firmly bonded. If the coated webbing didn’t have strong enough peel-strength, there may some safety accidents happened.

2. Pay attention to yellowing resistance and hydrolysis of TPU coated webbing. The coated webbing produced with ordinary cheap TPU will generally release powder (a layer of white powder) and get yellowing on the surface in about 3 to 12 months. This is also a serious and very hidden quality problem.
