What is TPU webbing?

To understand TPU coated webbing, we first need to look at the material itself. TPU, or thermoplastic polyurethane, is a high-performance elastomer that combines the best properties of rubber and plastic. Once cooled and set, the webbing becomes a composite that retains the tensile strength of the inner fabric while gaining the protective and tactile qualities of the outer TPU coating.

How does TPU compare with PVC? This is a common question. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is less expensive and offers basic waterproofing, but it relies on plasticizers to achieve softness. TPU, on the other hand, is inherently flexible without added plasticizers, so it never becomes oily or brittle.
