Coated webbing, with its excellent durability, waterproofing, and multifunctionality, is widely used in many industries. Whether in outdoor sports gear, medical equipment, fashion backpacks, or industrial transportation, coated webbing provides significant support for products. However, to maintain its best performance, proper storage is essential. Appropriate storage not only extends the lifespan of the webbing but also ensures it performs excellently in future use.
Coated webbing owns excellent property compared with traditional woven webbing. For instance, it is waterproof, abrasion resistant, anti-microbial and mould proof. TPU coated webbing and silicone coated webbing can even keep their good property in low temperature at -20℃. But there are two points should be noticed.
The first point is high temperature environments. High temperature is a significant factor that affects the lifespan of coated webbing. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can cause the coating material to age, become brittle, and even crack. This happens because heat accelerates the molecular movement of the coating materials (such as PVC, TPU, or silicone), leading to a decline in their physical properties. Therefore, coated webbing should be stored in a temperature-controlled environment, away from direct exposure to heat sources. The ideal storage temperature should generally be between 15°C and 25°C. So we’d better avoid placing coated webbing in direct sunlight. Do not store coated webbing in high-temperature environments, such as in cars, near heating devices, or near hot sources. And use a cool, dry storage area to maintain a stable temperature.
Another point is the chemicals. Chemicals can cause significant damage to coated webbing. Many chemicals, particularly strong acids, strong alkalis, and solvents, may react with the materials of the coating, causing it to peel off, discolor, or even corrode the base fiber. Coated webbing should be kept away from harmful chemicals to maintain its integrity over time. For example, keep coated webbing away from chemicals, especially corrosive substances like solvents, strong acids, or alkalis. If coated webbing has come into contact with chemicals during production, ensure it is thoroughly cleaned and dried before storage.
Moreover, cleaning is an integral part of storing coated webbing. If the webbing is contaminated with stains, oil, or other pollutants, it should be cleaned before storage. Improper cleaning can leave residues or chemicals on the webbing, impacting its performance and appearance. The right cleaning methods help extend the webbing's lifespan and maintain its functionality. Here we have some recommendations.
1. Use a mild, neutral detergent to clean the webbing, avoiding harsh acids or alkalis.
2. Clean the surface with a soft cloth or sponge to avoid scratching the webbing.
3. After cleaning, ensure the webbing is thoroughly dried before storing it to avoid residual moisture.
Whether in industrial, medical, or everyday applications, proper storage ensures that coated webbing continues to provide reliable support for various products. Understanding and following the correct storage methods is vital for preserving the value and functionality of coated webbing over time.
